The Importance of Gathering Client Testimonials

If you have ever visited my ‘Wall of Love’ you will know I’m a big fan of showcasing what my current and previous clients have taken the time to say about me and my services. Not only does it motivate me to keep providing an excellent service to my clients who entrust their businesses to me, it’s also an excellent way to show my potential clients what it’s like to work with me. If you are not already asking your customers to create testimonials for you, you should be. Here’s why…

Credibility

Reviews and testimonials boost your credibility as the expert in your industry and show social proof that you provide a high quality service or product. When you have great testimonials or reviews under your belt, it takes less effort on your part to convince new customers or clients that you can get the job done. Testimonials build trust with your audience and show credibility which is exactly what you want for your business.

Encouraging More Sales

It’s a fact that if a potential customer or client sees excellent reviews from customers just like them, they are more likely to choose your product or service. Testimonials from real customers show the humanity behind your business and is proof that you have helped others experiencing the same problem. You are here to solve that problem but instead of telling your audience that you can solve their problem, you provide proof that you can. This will encourage and increase your sales over time.

Recommendations

It’s fantastic if your clients are referring their network to you and this is great for business but sharing testimonials across your network has other benefits too. Not only are people with direct experience with your business recommending you to their friends, family and colleagues but just by putting yourself out there and sharing the kind words from your clients and customers also makes it more likely that people will remember you and refer you on to others, even if they have never worked with you before. Digital marketing is an excellent way to get your message across to the right people at the right time.

So, how do you go about getting client testimonials? Well the trick is to simply ask for them. (For accountability reasons, I need to do this more often!!) Email your customers and ask them to leave a few words about their interaction with you, send a follow up email after they have bought a product from you asking them how it was for them, leave a contact form on your website asking your website users to review your service or just reach out in person. Most people are more than happy to leave a review when prompted.
