If you haven’t heard of TikTok, then you must have been living under the proverbial rock. (no offence!) The platform was launched in September 2017 and has exploded in recent years. TikTok caters for all, supports all sorts and contains a wide range of diversity and variety across all ages and demographics. In fact, myself and my cat Flo currently have over 40,000 followers on our own TikTok account (for the curious among you, our profile can be found here)

So, why exactly is TikTok so popular?

One of the reasons this platform is so popular is its use of short form video. When the video platform was first launched, 15 second clips were the format, this increased to 60 second videos and now the use of 3 minute videos is being trialled on limited users with the intention of rolling it out to all users if it’s popular. Another reason is that the content is unique and appeals to such a wide range of people. It creates laughs, provides advice and even creates awareness around subjects which are difficult to hear but need to be heard. Our final reason is that it doesn’t matter how many followers you have, everyone has the chance to go VIRAL…

Is TikTok good for business?

Yes! This platform is a hive of thriving businesses but focusses more on sharing valuable or funny content than driving obvious business promotion.

Do you still need your Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram accounts for your business?

The answer here is also yes. In their own right, all the platforms you use are good for the marketing of your business and increases your chance of getting seen by more potential customers. If the platforms you are currently using are bringing results, there is no need at all to abandon them but there is also no harm in having a little fun on TikTok (Like 1 billion of the population) and seeing where it takes you.
